Cook Children’s Medical Construction: $43M Garage Project to Support West Tower Expansion

Cook Children's Medical Center is preparing for the medical construction of a $43 million parking garage that will support the upcoming West Tower hospital expansion. The multi-year project marks a major milestone in addressing patient growth and modernizing facilities in the city’s medical district.

Cook Children's Medical Center Expansion in Fort Worth

Cook Children’s Medical Center is one of the leading pediatric hospitals in Texas, serving children and families with specialized care for more than a century. With a reputation for cutting-edge treatments, research, and family-centered services, the medical center continues to grow as the population of Fort Worth expands. This latest expansion underscores its commitment to improving access, comfort, and infrastructure for patients and staff alike.

Hospital Garage Building Project Details

The planned garage will total 300,000 square feet and accommodate 504 vehicle parking spaces. It will also feature a basement level with a data center and dock facilities, enhancing both digital infrastructure and hospital operations. Located at 1501 West Terrell Avenue in Fort Worth’s medical district, the project will relieve parking congestion and set the stage for the future West Tower development.

Construction is expected to begin in late Q1 or early Q2 of 2026, with completion scheduled for Q1 2029.

Future West Tower Medical Construction Plans

The garage is being built in anticipation of Cook Children’s West Tower medical building project, a transformative expansion planned to rise directly adjacent to the site. Current filings estimate the tower will span approximately 700,000 square feet and is expected to cost over $1 billion. Once complete, it will expand inpatient capacity and introduce new state-of-the-art spaces for specialized care, research, and advanced pediatric services. The West Tower will sit within the main campus footprint, bringing a new architectural landmark to Fort Worth’s medical district.

Data Center Strengthens Hospital Infrastructure

The new garage’s basement will include a dedicated data center, a deliberate design choice that positions digital infrastructure at the heart of the campus expansion. This facility will act as an on-campus, high-availability hub for electronic health records, medical imaging archives, telemedicine platforms, real-time monitoring and research data, ensuring low-latency access for clinical teams.

Cook Children’s broader IT strategy already includes cloud-based disaster recovery testing of its Epic instance, so the new data center is expected to operate as part of a hybrid architecture—providing local performance and redundancy while leveraging public cloud services for scalability and disaster recovery. Exact specifications for power, cooling, rack density and storage capacity have not been publicly released as of this writing.

HKS Architects Leading the Design

The design firm behind the garage is HKS, Inc., from the Fort Worth office. Known globally for its architectural leadership, HKS has a strong portfolio in health care design. In Dallas–Fort Worth, the firm has worked on significant medical projects including UT Southwestern Medical Center facilities, Children’s Medical Center expansions, and Parkland Memorial Hospital. Their expertise in designing large-scale, high-functioning medical spaces makes them a key partner in this project.

Linbeck Group Oversees Hospital Construction

According to multiple permits filed with the City of Fort Worth, Linbeck Group is handling the general contracting for Cook Children’s expansion efforts. Projects under Linbeck’s oversight include:

  • $15 million Kids Place building project (permit issued June 2025)
  • $96 million South Utility Plant Expansion project
  • $6.4 million foundation project for the forthcoming West Tower

This established partnership positions Linbeck as a central player in bringing Cook Children’s long-term master plan to life.

Impact of Fort Worth Hospital Expansion

The hospital garage building project is more than a parking solution—it is the first step in reshaping Cook Children’s campus for decades of growth. With modernized infrastructure, expanded capacity, and a commitment to innovation, Cook Children’s Medical Center is preparing to meet the needs of Fort Worth’s youngest patients well into the future.
