Historic Original Mexican Eats Cafe Set to Rebuild at 4733 Camp Bowie in Fort Worth
The Original Mexican Eats Cafe, Fort Worth’s oldest Tex-Mex restaurant, is preparing for a comeback. According to recent building permit filings submitted in late October 2025, the historic eatery plans a 743 square-foot new construction project at 4733 Camp Bowie Blvd — near its former iconic location in west Fort Worth.
A Fort Worth Tex-Mex Landmark Since 1926
Founded in 1926 by the Pineda family, The Original Mexican Eats Cafe has been a local favorite for nearly a century. The restaurant’s rich history includes visits from President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the 1930s when he came to Fort Worth to visit his son, Elliot. The "Roosevelt Special" — named in his honor — remains a symbol of Fort Worth’s classic dining culture.
New Construction Planned at 4733 Camp Bowie Blvd
The new building permit lists an estimated cost of $200,000 for this Tex-Mex restaurant in Fort Worth. The project is currently in plan review, with expectations for completion by Spring 2026. The listed general contractor is Red Oak Commercial Contractors, LLC, a division of Red Oak Realty — one of Fort Worth’s active property management and brokerage firms overseeing more than 1 million square feet of commercial assets.
The design firm handling the new restaurant construction is TMA Architects of Fort Worth.
Building Toward a Reopening
The Original previously filed for a drive-thru restaurant permit at the same address in August 2024 for a 785 square-foot project that never materialized. Loyal customers have long awaited its return, and this latest filing could finally mark the long-anticipated revival of one of Fort Worth’s most beloved Tex-Mex institutions.
