Historic J&J Oyster Bar Property Sold to New Owner in Fort Worth's Cultural District
One of Fort Worth's most recognizable seafood destinations has entered a new chapter following the sale of the property that housed the longtime J&J Oyster Bar in the city's Cultural District.
According to a Tarrant County deed filed on June 26, 2026, Schusler Properties LLC, an entity associated with J&J Oyster Bar owner Jim Schusler, sold the restaurant property at 612 University Drive to AM Tee Investments LLC, an entity affiliated with Fort Worth-based Acadia Property Management. Tarrant Appraisal District records place the commercial valuation of the retail investment property at approximately $480,000.
The J&J Oyster Bar property occupies approximately 0.3 acre and includes a 1,290-square-foot restaurant building with a 450-square-foot canopy. The site has long been a familiar destination for seafood lovers in Fort Worth's Cultural District.
The new property owner acquires the retail investment property at a time when the surrounding West Seventh Street and Museum Place area continues to experience significant commercial and mixed-use development, increasing demand for well-located properties near downtown.
Longtime owners Jim and Cathy Schusler chose to sell after years of receiving purchase offers as the aging building required substantial investments in mechanical systems, kitchen equipment, and air-conditioning upgrades. Originally constructed as a Taco Bell in the 1960s before becoming J&J Oyster Bar in 1998, the property closed on May 30, 2026, ending an approximately 45-year run as one of Fort Worth's most beloved neighborhood seafood destinations. The sale marks both the conclusion of a local institution and the beginning of a new chapter for the property under its new ownership.
